Holy Cats, its Festival Time!

Happy BC Day, Pride & Festival!

Holy Cats, its Festival Time!

These past couple of weeks have been filled with Bass Coasters, Shambalaers, and Burners at the shop. Everyone is searching for pieces to complete their wild and awesome outfits.

This month, VM will be EVERYWHERE . We are starting out at Pride on Sunset beach and we’re wrapping up the month at the convention centre for Anime Revolution.

Do not fear, my festival friends, the shop will continue to be open during all of our running around. You will not miss out on last minute goggles , contacts or hair dye.

August also brings BC day so here are some random facts to consider while you go camping on the long weekend:

The Spirit Bear is our provincial mammal;
The Dogwood is our provincial flower;
The Steller’s Jay is our provincial bird;
Jade is our provincial gemstone;
The Western Red Cedar is our provincial tree; and
The Pacific Salmon is our provincial fish – it was officially added in February, 2013

The more you know… and knowing is half the battle.

September will be here before you know it. Do you have an event coming up that you would like Venus & Mars to be a vendor at? Let us know about it in the comments below.

Want everyone to know our totally not boring BC facts? Why not share this on Facebook or Twitter? Use the links below.

Time to go drink some BC beer to celebrate!

Three Reasons You Need a Kilt this Summer

Three Reasons You Need a Kilt this Summer

 Gentlemen,

 It is time you owned a wicked awesome kilt.

 Here are three reasons why the BLACK COTTON KILT is essential to your summer wardrobe:

  1. It’s manlier than motor oil and beards. Anyone saying otherwise is jealous.  Just ask the Spartans and the Scots. As a result, they have a similar effect on women as a corseted lady has on a man.
  2. It keeps you cooler than shorts. If you live in Vancouver you’ve been enjoying this sunny weather since the beginning of May.  You know that it will only get hotter as the summer progresses.  Shorts are great but you will get way more out of the breeze in a kilt.
  3. It goes with everything.  Seriously, you can wear a kilt with a POET SHIRT and look all dapper and amazing or you can wear it with your favorite nerdy tshirt and still look great. Or better yet impress your favorite gal or guy by showing up in just a kilt and a smile.

 So what are you waiting for?  Order one today or get down to the shop and grab one before they’re all gone.

 What’s your favorite reason for wearing a kilt? Ladies, what do you think of kilted men? Let us know in the comments below.

 Do you know someone in need of an awesome kilt?

Why not share this on Facebook or Twitter? Or sign them up for the Steampunk Tempest so that they can get Venus & Mars goodness in their inbox.

Looking forward to seeing you kilted gentlemen in the near future,

Dan’s New Vest

Celtic Scroll Jaquard Pocket Vest 001

Dan’s New Vest

By day Dan is a mild mannered office worker at the Japanese consulate but by night he is a superhero decked out in awesome steampunk clothing that he gets from Venus & Mars. His favorite item is the pocket vest.

Dan has stepped in and given us a hand by either working in the shop, helping out at a event or by being a living mannequin more times than I can count.  We think he is awesome.

But he has a weakness.  Dan frequently misses out on things he really wants because he doesn’t always purchase right away.  On many occasions he’s gone back for the blender or skateboard or shoes that he really wanted and all too often they are sold out when he gets there.

That’s why whenever we make a new vest I text him a picture right away and let him know how many are left in his size.  It’s only fair.

I knew he was going to fall in love with the CELTIC SCROLL JACQUARD POCKET VEST so I sent him a picture.

He raced to the store at superhuman speed to get one while we still had them.  And wouldn’t you know, it looks super awesome on him.

Now Dan and his vest can live in happiness together forever.

Have you ever missed out on buying something and had it haunt your dreams and fill you with regret?  Let us know about it in the comments below.

Do you know someone who would love this vest as much as Dan?  Why not share it on Twitter or Facebook below?

Until next time…

Happy Canada Day!

Canada Day 2014 at VM

Happy Birthday Canada!

Guess what it’s the store’s birthday too! Venus & Mars is officially 21 years old today! Do you know what that means?  We can finally go to Vegas and drink in Casinos!

Here’s some things about the Great White North that you probably didn’t know and maybe didn’t need to know:

  • 2.4 million Cariboo live in Canada
  • 80% of all alcohol consumed in Canada is beer
  • 1835 was the first time Canadians were referred to as Canucks
  • Americans pretend to Canadians abroad
  • 11 is the number of correct points on a Canadian maple leaf

Do you have an interesting fact?  Let us know about it in the comments below.

Did you learn something?  Why not share it on Facebook or Twitter?

Wishing you a Happy Canada Day, eh?

11th Doctor Pic - Infographic

Do you have your outfit for Northwest Fan Fest yet?

Three cons in one place, how cool is that?

If you don’t know what I’m talking about you should check out our EVENT PAGE for all the details.

Triple the con-power means that it is time to bust out the big guns when it comes to cosplay.

How amazing is Dan as a steampunk version of the 11th doctor? He is wearing a WHITE COTTON POET SHIRT,  a BROWN STRIPED POCKET VEST and a BLACK MILITARY FROCK COAT with some rad BLACK BONDAGE PANTS.  He is also showing some major swagger in a red bow tie because bowties are cool.

Check him out in the video below:
