NFH: Faux Fur Shoulder Holster Epaulets!

Have you ever met someone or done something that gave your life purpose? All of a sudden you stop feeling like you’re drifting aimlessly through the drudge of day to day life and you feel like you have meaning. The difference in your quality of life is like day and night. The sun seems sunnier and the sky seems bluer. Sometimes I feel like my wardrobe lacks that same sense of purpose. Black tank top, leggings and a skirt; faded black dress with leggings; black shirt and yoga pants, where is purpose and vitality in my clothes that I feel in my life? Luckily, we have Fresh New Handmade Faux Fur Shoulder Epaulets that turn any outfit from existential dread to fabulous.

You may be thinking that fur epaulets seem a little extra to wear in your everyday life.

You could not be more wrong. Not wearing fur epaulets just isn’t enough. You’ve been brainwashed into thinking that you shouldn’t look like you’re going to run into battle when you’re getting your coffee. There is nothing more right and natural than looking like you are going to rule the North when you walk your dog. Seriously you need to come try one on because you will walk more confidently and stand taller when you wear them. It’s just science.

Obviously they are also great for Halloween. Faux fur epaulets could be the start of your Viking costume or Amazon costume or Barbarella costume. I mean you could add the fur epaulets to a little black dress and go to a costume party. If people ask you what you are just say you’re a warrior then give them a stern but distance stare that says: don’t fuck with me.  We suggest wearing a pair with a corset and green princess skirt for a cool Lady Stoneheart look. Or try a kilt with a black holey skinny tee, boots and goggles for a Mad Max inspired costume.

So what kind of a costume will you make with your faux fur epaulets? Let us know in the comments below!

Fresh New Handmade – Gloves!

gloves cover

I’m not really a fussy dresser. Most of the time, I’ll throw on the most comfortable thing I own (in black) and call it a day.  I don’t really wear a lot of accessories except for my wedding ring, my fitbit and my black trim choker if I’m going to work. I love the look of a well put together fully formed outfit but a lot of the time function wins out over fashion. It would get annoying to have to sweep and mop and crawl under things to dust if I had a body chain on. It’s not always practical to grocery shop in a feather bra. But every once in awhile I want to look just a little bit cooler or more badass than I do on a regular day. My go to accessory and solution is gloves!

Like all of the Venus & Mars clothing, the gloves are design by Sanne and balance on the border of fantasy  and rock. All of the gloves are fingerless so you can still do things while you look awesome. I don’t know about you but anytime I’ve worn opera gloves, it’s a pain in the ass to do anything. Got a text? Give yourself 5 minutes to pull off your glove and answer and another 10 minutes to get your glove back on. Need a quick snack? Either figure out how to eat a granola bar without getting crumbs on your gloves or spend another ten to fifteen minutes removing them and putting them back on again. Life is too short to deal with opera gloves. Just get an awesome pair of glovets and call it a day.

wizard glovesMy personal favourite glovets are the black velvet pointe glovets. First of all, they’re black so they’ll go with anything and everything. Second, they’re velvet so you’ll be able to live in luxury when you wear them. Third, the pointe part can be worn on your middle finger for a fancier look or on the thumb or pinky finger for a more punk rock look.  They look equally great with the lace up hoodie as they do with a gown and cloak.

What are your favourite Venus & Mars glovets? What would you wear them with? Let us know in the comments below.

Fresh New Handmade: Steampunk Bustle Pocket Belt

Pocket Belts are awesome.  They let you carry your things without having to worry about a purse or bag. Steampunk is awesome. It’s probably my favorite style of costume because it’s so open ended and the only limitation is your imagination. Do you see where I’m going with this? If you like steampunk and pocket belts I have the most excellent accessory for you in the history of the world. We mashed up pocket belts and steampunk and made the Steampunk Bustle Pocket Belt.

steampunk bustle pocket belt - sideLet me explain why these new Steampunk Bustle Pocket Belts are so great. First, they are made from canvas. They’re super durable so they’ll hold up in a dust storm at Burning Man or a frenzied run through the airport. They have a large a flap pocket with velcro closure, an outer side pocket and two inner secret pocket. Think of all the things you can carry! The waist strap is adjustable and secured by a clip closure.  The best part is that there is a lace bustle on the back. You can make any outfit steampunk!

They look great on men and women.  You could totally rock a Steampunk Bustle Pocket Belt in your everyday life with a pair of jeans and t-shirt. Or you could wear one with your best festival gear to become a steampunk elf warrior. We suggest trying one with a Queen Anne Corsetlet and short circle square skirt. Or you could try one with a skinny tee  and  bondage pants.
