NEW is Always Better!

New in Shop

The weather is getting warmer which makes me think of summer. Summer makes me think of festivals and festivals means its time to think about gear. Luckily, Sanne is three steps ahead and she has been working on different colours or fan favourites and making sure that sold out things are restocked!

Holster Vest with Lace Up Back

The reversible holster vest has pockets. You can keep your phone, ID and cash close you without worrying about ruining your looks with a backpack or leaving your purse somewhere. The back is lace up. That means that the size is a little bit adjustable and that you will be able to feel the cool breeze on your back.  Not only is the lace up functional but it also adds a sexy detail to the back.  Sounds pretty rad to me.   Now available in Black, Green and Brown online and wine (coming soon online) in shop!

RESTOCKED – Utility Kilt in size medium

Medium seems to be our most popular size. We’re always sold out! What’s sexier than a man in a kilt? Nothing. Show off your muscular calves in a handmade kilt. Seriously every man needs at least one in his wardrobe. Going to a fetish night? Wear a kilt. Going to Burning Man? You definitely need to pack a kilt. Attending a wedding? Kilt! Kilts look great with a t-shirt and converse runners or you can dress one up with a pair of boots and a dress shirt. We suggest you try a kilt with a poet shirt and a waistcoat for a dapper steampunk look.

New Things!

new in shop ap. 22

New in Shop for the Week of April 22, 2018

Sanne has been so busy making all the things for the shop. This week we have a new restock of some old favorites. That’s right, new in store this week is the long black steampunk frock coat and the reversible corset waist belt.

Long Black Steampunk Frock Coat

Available in sizes Small to Large.

The Steampunk Frock Coat is the masculine equivalent to a corset. Seriously, every guy who tries one on looks great in it. It’s like an instant makeover. These look great with a pair of jeans and runners but they can also be dressed up and worn as a suit jacket. We’ve had many people get a Steampunk Frock Coat for Halloween or a costume and ended up integrating it into their everyday wardrobe because it looks so great. We love the look of a Steampunk Frock Coat with a pair of bondage pants and a waistcoat.

Corset Waist Belts

Now available in blue reversible to black vegan leather, red reversible to black vegan leather, brown reversible to black vegan leather, and black tapestry reversible to black vegan leather.

Do you want the look of a corset without the boning? Then the corset waist belt is for you. The corset waist belt laces up in the front so you can customize how wide the gap is. Elastic sides and back are stretchy so this belt can fit most people. Did we mention that it’s reversible? Well it is! One side is vegan leather and the other is bright coloured patterned fabric so that you can wear your corset waist belt with any outfit. We like to wear the corset waist belt with an underblouse and an asymmetrical skirt.

In With The New!

Byzantine Dress

Ready to conquer an Empire? The Empress of Byzantium would certaintly aggree she’s ready to reign supreme in H&R London’s amazingly popular Byzantine Dress! The beautifully made Byzantine Dress will have you realizing your dreams of royalty. A strappy swing dress with a strikingly bold brocade print, the dress has delicate lace on the straps and a corset-tie waist to tighten or loosen for a perfect fit. The sweetheart neckline enhances the bustline and the built-in cotton lined petticoat really makes this dress extra special. The Dress hits at the knee, and zips up the side. Available in both Black and Red.

Black Brocade Steampunk Jacket Tail Coat with Lacing

Black brocade tail coat with black lace and satin ruffle along neckline and cuffs. This gothic jacket is short at front with a longer split tails at the back. There is cord lacing though eyelets down the centre back. The front and sleeves are detailed with antique-silver buttons and studs on military style straps. The jaquard fabric is of high quality and the tailcoat is fully-lined. In view of the critical lack of decent coachmen nowadays, this is obviously a must-have for any lady who has to drive her own coach! A perfect topper to your dream steampunk ensemble.

Steampunk Poet Shirt – Black Cotton, Lace-Up

Add a little romance to your wardrobe with a poet shirt. Note! These shirts are not meant to be fitted in any way. The loose following sleeves and drop shoulder will make your feel like you just walk off the cover of a Gothic Romance and into modern times. They look great with a pair of jeans if you’re just looking to spice up your everyday look but they look even better with a waistcoat or jacket. We like Poet Shirts the best when paired with vegan leather jeans and a steampunk frock coat.

What’s New Pussycat?

Underbust Holster Vest

The underbust holster vest is where fashion meets function. Starting at the top, the hood is detachable and comes with a piece that lets you wear the hood on its own. There is a zipper in the front that makes the holster easy to put on and take out. The back is elastic to allow for maximum comfort. There are also 2 large pockets. That’s right, we made a vest for women and we included large, functional pockets. Like pockets that fit things. We think it looks great with tap shorts and a peasant blouse.

Steampunk Waistcoat

Attention Steampunks of the world: Your wardrobe needs at least one waistcoat! A waistcoat will take your cosplay from recognizable to exceptional in the blink of an eye. Imagine, you can go from drab to dapper just by putting on a vest. Obviously, you can wear your waistcoat for more than just cosplay. They look great with a nice shirt and jeans if you are going for a casual look but when worn with black dress pants and a dress shirt they become formal enough to wear to a wedding. Our favorite outfit is matching one with a poet shirt and steampunk bondage pants.

Royal Blue Velvet Lined Cloak

I’ve found there’s 2 kinds of people in the world: those who own a cloak and those who have not got one yet. If you’re the latter, good news, today is your day to start your cloak collection. If you’re the former, good news, we have lots of colours and styles available to grow your cloak wardrobe. Why would someone want a cloak in this modern age? Aside from being a blanket that is social acceptable to wear, cloaks can make any outfit formal and add an air of fantasy to your everyday life. Plus, if you have a cloak in your wardrobe then you always have something to wear to a last minute costume party. We think cloaks look the best with a gown or a poet shirt.

Join Me on the Corner of Fashion and Function: Festival Pocket Belt

I grew up in Mission. Every August there was a big folk music festival in Heritage Park. Everyone would go. My drama class would fund raise by running the parking and as an added bonus we got to get into the festival for free.  There were dozens of booths selling all kinds of interesting trinkets or musical instruments or clothing.  There was a large stage where bands from all over the world would play while the hippie parents danced on the grass in front of it. Most importantly, there were food vendors with every kind of fried dough and lemonade imaginable. The food was the best part.

The worst part was trying to figure out how to carry your things.  Backpacks were pretty good but in the middle of August they make your back super sweaty.  Plus if you wanted to dance you had to find someone to watch your bag or dance off in the corner where you wouldn’t hit anyone.  Purses were okay but once you crammed your new goodies in there the strap would start to dig into your shoulder. Also if you were dancing, you couldn’t flail about because you might spill the contents of your purse.

If I decided to go back this summer I would definitely invest in a Venus & Mars handmade Festival Pocket Belt.

First of all these pocket belts are super cute. They are currently available in black and teal (one of the best colour combos ever). There is a long tail like piece of fabric that comes down like a cape for your butt or your hip. It has four pockets so you can keep all your curiosities on you as well as your snacks and wallet.  There is a large zipper pocket for things that need to be secure. It also a flap pocket with a button detail.  There are two more open pockets in case you need easy access to M&Ms or gummy bears. The waist strap is adjustable and has a double velcro closure. It’s pretty much the definition of fashion meets function. If you are planning on going to a festival this summer, I strongly suggest coming to Venus & Mars to try one on.  It might be exactly what you need to keep your things and your sanity intact.

What festivals are you planning on going to this summer?  Let us know in the comments below.
