Do you ever put on a piece of clothing and immediately feel transported to another time and place? That’s how I felt when I first tried on the side skirt with lace. There is something about the asymmetry of that skirt that screams elvish princess to me. I stepped into the dressing room as Devon Dale: Lady Adventurer for Hire and when I stepped out I am Devon Dale: Elvish Princess.
All of sudden, I was transported to the forest. I had a bow and a quiver of arrows strapped to my back. My black side lace skirt made it easy for me to navigate the uneven terrain as I patrolled the border of our woods for any intruders or threats. If I needed to, I could easily run and hide because of my elf like grace. I could climb a tree with ease and nothing could stop me from defending and protecting my kin and kingdom.
I gave my head a shake and I was back in the store.
It is so comfortable to wear because the stretch of cotton makes this skirt super easy to move around in. It feels like a hug. You may not need to hide in the tree tops in your day to day life but you could definitely wear this skirt all day at work or running errands. The lace detail adds a little bit of femininity and cuteness. This is the perfect Burning Man or festival skirt. You could wear it with leggings and top to coffee with a friend. You could easily turn it into a steampunk cosplay by adding a corset, a pocket belt and some goggles.
Add a little fantasy to your life and wardrobe and put one of these fantastic skirts in your cart immediately. You will not regret it.

Chances are you have probably seen us around at a local convention, festival or event. Whether we’re helping you with your cosplay at Fan Expo or Anime Revolution or selling you a sparkly bra at Pride, if it’s a large gathering of cool people in Vancouver you’ll find us there. We’ve hung out with you on Jericho Beach at Vancouver Folk Festival and huddled under a tent to keep out of the rain with you at Celtic Fest, but have you ever wondered what our first ever really big event was?
In 2011 we attended our first Taboo. We had done a couple other small events but now we were ready to play in the big leagues at our first ever event at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Our setup was way different 6 years ago compared to now but our vision was clear. We were going to set up a pop up shop that would have the same feel as the Venus&Mars brick and mortar, only smaller. We brought rolling racks full of Venus&Mars corsets, cinchers, vests and cloaks to have on display. There was only one problem. We had no idea how to display it.
A few days before the event Sanne bought some grid wall. This was going to be fantastic. We could construct a freestanding store with displays. That’s when we ran into our second problem. We didn’t know how to put the grid wall together. Sanne’s husband had bought some clips from the hardware store and after a lot of fussing around with them, one of our neighbours was kind enough to point out that it was much easier to use zap straps. Now we always have an abundance of zap straps with us for every event. I’m sure we would have figured it out eventually but it was nice of her to help speed up the process.
Today, we have set up down to an art. We plan out our layout ahead of time so we can get our booth up and ready for action as quickly as possible (although sometimes if you come early you might catch us frushing our displays).
We are so excited to attend our seventh Taboo this year (February 3-5, 2017). Will you be there? What would you like us to bring? Let us know in the comments below! Do you need an awesome sexy outfit to wear? Why not look through our online shop to get some ideas or come down to the shop and let us dress you up?

This weeks #throwbackthursday is a poster we did for #Christmas 2006. We were really into #angels for awhile and this is part of a series of angels and #GiveThemWhatTheyWant posters. It seems timely…
The photographer was #RockerChickCheri and the location is the west alley between Cordova St. and Hastings just around the corner from VM’s flagship location. There’s lots of great graffiti there. Check it out sometime if you want.
I’ve been reminding myself to just chill this season as I can feel overwhelmed. Most important to me is the people in my life and being together at this time of year
There’s people living in the skytrain station and that’s distressing, but as Canadians, they’re better off than the refugees. Life is good.
