What if I told you that we had a magical unisex piece of clothing that had pockets and that you wouldn’t over heat in? What if that item was also perfect for cosplay, steampunk outfits, music festivals and Burning Man? I bet your ears would perk right up and you would want to know more. Well hold onto your hats, kids, because we have just restocked our reversible holster vest. And it is that magical piece of clothing you are wishing for.
First of all, the reversible holster vest has pockets. You can keep your phone, ID and cash close you without worrying about ruining your looks with a backpack or leaving your purse somewhere.
Secondly, it’s reversible. I know that the name implies that but it’s still important to mention. You are getting two looks for the price of one. One side is black cotton canvas which will go with everything you own and the other side is green tapestry with a feature fabric at the pocket. Some have black pockets, some have pinstripe pockets and some have faux fur pockets. So essentially you have one side that lets you match it with just about anything and the other side makes the holster vest a feature in your outfit. How cool is that?
Third, the back is lace up. That means that the size is a little bit adjustable and that you will be able to feel the cool breeze on your back. How great is that? Not only is the lace up functional but it also adds a sexy detail to the back. Sounds pretty rad to me.
But Devon, what exactly do I wear with a reversible holster vest? The short answer is pretty much anything you want. Seriously, try one with a jeans and t-shirt! It’ll look great. If you want to go a little more steampunk though try one with a side lace skirt, corset, and goggles.

Last week we had two days of sunshine and it was warm enough to walk around without a jacket. Do you know what that means? It’s time to start to build your festival wardrobe for the summer months ahead. Whether you’re one of the lucky ones who get to go down to Burning Man or whether you’re staying closer to home and attending Bass Coast, Shambhala or Vancouver Folk Festival, you’re going to need clothes to stand out in the crowd and we have just the things you need.
Obviously you’ll need the basics like a good pocket belt, reliable goggles and solid boots but what about brain storage unit? You absolutely must remember to have something to cover your head. It may sound silly but keeping the sun off your neck and shoulders will save you from discomfort later. Hats and hoods are also handy in the evening when it starts to cool down. Plus if it starts to rain you can stay dry!
Luckily for you, we have just finished making a fresh, new batch of spirit hoods! They are just perfect for festival season. A Spirit Hood will protect your mind’s home from the elements and as an added bonus they are super cute. They have faux fur on the outside and are lined with left over fabric which means they are Eco friendly and help to reduce waste. There is a built in scarf with secret pockets (for snacks) that end in adorkable paw mittens. They also have cute rounded bear like ears on the hood so you will be the most cuddly person at the party.
Not sure what is appropriate attire to wear with a spirit hood? May we suggest a short circle square skirt, tube top and shrug? Or how about a kilt and holster vest ? Honestly Spirit Hoods look great with everything. You should probably come get one right now and just wear it with whatever you have on.
What’s in your tickle trunk this festival season? Let us know about it in the comments below.

The morning is grey. There is a light drizzle that seems like the sky can’t decide whether it wants to explode in a rainstorm or lighten up to a sunny day. Everyone walks with the heads down, umbrellas up and black jackets zipped up. Today feels like an angsty teenager. It’s not bad and it’s not good. It’s just apathetic and meh. Suddenly there she is, a colourful rainbow. The Lolita girl steps out of the coffee shop like a beautiful pink cupcake in her lovely, pastel dress with a crinoline full of layers and layers of soft tulle. Somehow the day doesn’t seem as grey and the world feels less indifferent. Little rays of sunshine start to break through the clouds.
Some people call Vancouver the no fun city. Those people don’t own a crinoline. The truth is that you make your own fun and any event or situation can be an adventure. That mindset comes from within but sometimes when your dishes are piling up and you need to do groceries and you lost your bus pass it’s hard to not to think negatively. A little outside help might be exactly what you need. It is next to impossible to feel crappy when you’re wearing a crinoline. Seriously, try grocery shopping with a friend in crinolines, you’ll have a blast.
You might be thinking that a crinoline is more of an under garment; just a thing to make your skirts fuller. You would be wrong. Crinolines make excellent skirts and add sass to any outfit. If you’re worried about them being see-through add a cute pair of ruffle shorts or leggings underneath. One of my favourite looks is a crinoline with a nerdy t-shirt, some leggings and converse runners. You get bonus points if you wear your hair in a side pony tail. If you’re feeling a little bit fancier try a crinoline with a corset and sleeves and become a fairy princess instantly. How can you feel blue when you’re a fairy princess? And of course there is always the vintage pinup classic look of wearing a crinoline under a full skirted 50’s inspired dress.

I love to be fancy. Bring on the gowns, tuxedos and cloaks. There isn’t a pair of long gloves and tiara in the world that I would turn down. Do you know what I hate? Having nowhere to put my things. My phone is basically another limb, I need my lipstick with me at all times and I don’t really frequent too many places where I won’t need ID or money. Do you know what doesn’t have a place for things? Fancy clothing.
Luckily, Venus & Mars has developed a pocket belt (with pockets to hold things) that looks like tails. I don’t mean furry woodland creature tails, I mean fancy tuxedo tails. Finally I can go to the Oscars looking like a smouldering gentleman in a corset, princess skirt, sleeves and tails pocket belt and still have somewhere to put my snacks. In case you were wondering, I am nominated for best supporting Lady Adventurer for Hire in the Alternative Goth Boutique category.
The Tails Pocket Belts are reversible so you always have options. One side is black for black tie events and the other side is multi coloured for fun events. There is a large zipper pocket which is ideal for your phone, ID and cash and there are easily accessible side pockets for emergency lip gloss and trail mix. You never know when low blood sugar may strike. The Tails Pocket Belt is not just for fancy events, it is also perfect for standing out at music festivals and Burning Man. What’s not to love?

Working in an office sucks when you’re not a muggle. You have to come and go according to someone else’s schedule. You have to sit at a computer without browsing the internet. You have to make small talk with people who have no idea that you are secretly a weirdo. Worst of all, you have to wear stupid, ugly office clothes. The annual Christmas party gives you a little bit of a break from the monotony but that’s only once a year. What you need is Tutu Tuesday. Here’s some tips to help convince your boss that Tutu Tuesday is what your office needs.
Do it for Charity.
Find a pretty politically neutral charity like the food bank or the SPCA. Go to your boss and propose that everyone could donate $5 per week to participate in tutu Tuesday. Your boss can feel good about the company giving back to the community and the people in your office can feel good and donating to a good cause. And you can feel good about wearing a tutu.
Do it as a morale booster.
In my office experience, people can get fall into a slump at work especially when the workload is overwhelming or the coffee machine is broken. When one person gets down, they drag the whole office down with them. The cheapest and easy fix to changing the mood of the office is by adding tutus. It’s pretty hard to take yourself or any problems too seriously when you’re wearing a tutu. Copier is broken again? That’s sucks, I’m just gonna grand jete out of stage left and it’s no longer my problem. (Grand jete is a ballet term for big jump. I did research).
Remind your boss that tutus can still look professional.
This may seem crazy but it’s true. For example if you wore your tutu with a peasant blouse and vest you would look more professional than someone in yoga pants, flip flops and a loose shirt. I’ve seen people wear yoga pants in professional settings. You will never be able to convince me that looks better than a tutu. NEVER.
Clients will love it.
Here’s the truth, when you have new clients, it’s sometimes hard to find common ground to talk about. Making small talk about the weather and traffic can only go so far. Want to really make an impression and have your company stand out in the client’s memory, get them to come for a meeting on Tutu Tuesday. There is no way they’ll forget about your company then.
Feeling nervous about talking to your boss face to face, why not share this post with them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter? Or if you want to get them indirectly, sign your boss up for the for Steampunk Tempest.
