I know that nothing ruins a cosplay quicker than a backpack or purse (unless your character carries either of those, obviously). But there’s just some stuff that you need to have on you at a convention. A pocket belt is a nice solution. It’s less intrusive than a bag and you can wear it on your hip to leave your hands free for taking pictures. Here’s what I think you need for your con care kit.
Picking Your Pocket Belt
First of all, you need to start with the right bag. Our classic pocket belt is a pretty good choice for any cosplay. It’s small enough to not detract from your cosplay but big enough to carry what you need plus your wallet, phone and keys. If you need a little more room, our steampunk pocket belt is also an excellent choice. It has a bigger main pocket, a zippered inside pocket and a leg strap. Both styles of pocket belts are available in black, brown, wine and green so you’re sure to find something that matches your cosplay.
Water and snacks
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say that they spent their food money on stuff at a con. Food is important, it fuels your body and keeps you from getting hangry. If you know you can’t be trusted not to spend your food money, bring granola bars or protein bars. Even if you’re good with money, it’s nice to have a snack on hand for when you need it. Your body also needs hydration and Redbull doesn’t count. Bring a water bottle with you. Our pocket belts have a big ring on them that is perfect for attaching a reusable water bottle on with a carabiner. Most cons have water fountains or water bottle refilled stations so you can stay hydrated all day long.
Depending on what you’re cosplaying as, you’ll probably need a first aid kit for your cosplay. You’ll want a little ziplock bag with some safety pins, a travel sewing kit, some tape and anything else you can think of. Con days are long days and chances are that you’re cosplay might get a little tired after walking around for 8 – 10 hours. Make sure you have the right equipment to perk it up. Also if you ever see me at a con, I usually have lots of safety pins and I’ll be happy to share with you.
