Where do the Weirdos go to Dance?
Blah its March tomorrow. Festival Season hasn’t started yet. There are no fun conventions. Vancouver has a bit of a reputation of being a no fun city, especially when it comes to clubs and dancing. There are, of course, the mainstream pop music clubs on Granville street. But where are you supposed to go if you don’t want to hang out with the jocks? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
Descent is Vancouver’s Goth night. It takes place the 3rd Sunday of every month at the Red Room. Founded in August, 2007, Descent provides a chill environment for the city’s Goth weirdos to dance and drink in peace. There is no dress code but you are encouraged to wear whatever you want to express yourself. The music is good, the cover is cheap and everyone is pretty friendly. Throw on a black frock coat and some dark jeans and go dance the night away.
Galaxion is your place to drink, dance and game. Heavily inspired by 80s pop culture, Galaxion takes place on the first Saturday of every month at the Astoria. Dance the night away to 80s classics, New Wave, Synthpop, Hip Hop and Post Punk. Don’t feel like dancing? Check out some of the retro arcade games set on free play. It’s the perfect place to rock some rainbow sparkle leggings!
Sin City is Vancouver’s longest running fetish party. It takes place on the second Saturday of every month (plus a couple other bonus parties) at various venues. If you’ve never been to a fetish party before don’t be scared! Sin City is the perfect way to introduce yourself to the life style and other weirdos with similar interests. There is a dance floor or if you’re feeling spicy then you can check out the dungeon. Sin City has a fetish dress code to keep the normies out. We suggest starting your outfit with a corset.
I know it can seem hopeless when you’re passing the Lamp Lighter on a Saturday night but there are really cool events and venues you can find in Vancouver if you look hard enough. These are just a few examples. Did I miss anything? Where do you like to hang out on the weekend? Let me know on on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
