Featured Product: Velvet Cloaks

Venus & Mars - Velvet Lined Cloak with Fur Hood

January is cold and miserable. I hate to sound like a downer but it totally is. Christmas is over. It’s rainy. It’s freezing. There’s still at least 5 months until we can comfortably drink cocktails on the patio again. How are you supposed to feel warm and cozy when Eggnog lattes are no longer available?

I have a solution for you that will warm your body and soul.

Picture this, you are walking through a snowy forest looking tragically gorgeous and mysterious. As you step into a clearing, all the chatter and noises of the forest cease and you surrounded by the most serene silence. The snow covers the thick evergreen trees like a veil on a bride. Far above you can see sunlight and blue sky breaking through the clouds. A white fawn steps into the clearing with you. It approaches without fear and nuzzles your hand then walks off back into the woods leaving you standing alone in your wine velvet cloak.

I can’t guarantee that will happen if you get a cloak but the odds of it happening is probably slightly better if you do have one. When you put on a cloak you get to wrap yourself in a warm hug that will keep the January chill off of you. You also get to wrap yourself in a fantasy. You could be an elven warrior, a regal diplomat, or even a superhero. The only limitation is your imagination.

Lucky for you, we have a brand new batch of cloaks fresh out of the studio. Our stunning wine velvet lined cloaks are back in stock. We also have some beautiful royal blueish purple lined velvet cloaks so you stay warm and stylish this winter.

How do you keep warm in January? Let us know in the comments below.

Christmas Party Outfit Ideas for the Ladies

Costco, Michael’s and The Bay have had their Christmas displays up since like August, but now that it is officially after Remembrance Day, we can start getting into the nitty gritty of Christmas. When I worked in an office, our Christmas Party was one of the only days of the year when I felt like I could dress like myself. Monday to Friday, I had to cosplay as a secretary but once HR had a couple of sips of eggnog I was free to be my corseted self. If you’re anything like me then you’re ready to let your freak flag fly in the office. Last week we covered outfit suggestions for guys, this week these are my suggestions for Christmas Party Attire for the ladies.

Underblouse and Cincher

This is one of my favorite combinations. The underblouse has three quarter length sleeves that give you a bit of coverage on your shoulders and upper arms but the sheer fabric helps you feel sexy. The underbust feels like a hug when you wear it. Bonus, the boning will make you stand up straight. If you wear this combo with a camisole and pencil skirt then people will hardly even notice that you’re wearing a corset.

Queen Anne Corsetlet and Princess Skirtprincess skirt

If you’re feeling dramatic and you want everyone to know, then I suggest a Queen Anne Corsetlet and Princess Skirt.  You will look like the royal you suspect everyone knows you are. You’ll look formal enough for any venue you visit. Don’t worry about being overdressed, when you’re a queen everyone is simply under dressed.

christmas partyCorset Waist Belt and any little black dress

If you’re feeling a bit shy and you don’t want to go balls out bizarre around your muggle coworkers, try a corset waist belt with a little black dress. The waist belt will show off your curves and the lace up in the front gives the appearance of a corset without all that pesky boning. You’ll be able to eat and drink as much as you like and dance the night away. Win!

Featured Product: Cloaks

If there are two things I know to be true, it’s that cloaks are awesome and not having a costume makes Halloween kinda shitty.

There’s nothing worse than going to a party where everyone has elaborate super cool costumes and you’re just in a tank top and jeans. When people ask you what you’re supposed to be you either have to admit you don’t have a costume or claim to be a serial killer (because they look like everyone else). On the flip side, there is no better feeling that being out in a crisp autumn evening wrapped up in a cloak with a boozy hot chocolate. If you haven’t figured it out already, cloaks are the solution to not having a costume.

Seriously, if you have no idea what to be just get a cloak. Costume done. Wear all black under your cloak and if people ask what you are you can reply with either witch or warlock. BAM, you’ve just unlocked the Halloween costume achievement. It doesn’t even really matter what colour cloak you wear. You’ll still give off mystical person vibes and for most situations that’s good enough.

You can totally set it up though, if you want to. Try a poet shirt, black pants and boots with a cloak and you’re now a ranger, prince, knight, Aragorn or Robin Hood. It’s that easy. Wear a corset or Queen Anne Corsetlet with a princess skirt or long circle square skirt and you’ve become a princess, Lady Stoneheart, high priestess or lady knight. Want to be a jedi or sith? Start with a cloak. Want to be someone from Assassin’s Creed? Cloak. Elf? Cloak. Vampire? Cloak. Oh and most obviously if you want to be Little Red Riding Hood then you should probably start with a red cloak.

Thus concludes the Halloween installment of why Devon thinks you need a cloak. Do you know what you’re dressing up for Halloween? Let us know in the comments below.
